Bayern say Ribery not going anywhere
Munich - Bayern Munich insisted Wednesday that French star Franck Ribery, reportedly sought by several of Europe's leading clubs, was not for sale.
Bayern denied a Sports Bild report that the supervisory board had agreed to consider selling the 26-year-old midfielder should the right offer come along.
A statement said there was no truth in the report which appeared Wednesday.
"There is a unanimous decision from the board of directors of FC Bayern Munich AG that the player Franck Ribery is not for sale," the statement said.
Sports Bild had quoted supervisory board chairman Franz Beckenbauer as saying it had agreed that if Ribery was intent on leaving "we will address the issue."
In its statement, Bayern said the transfer of a player did not need the approval of the supervisory board.
On Tuesday, the Bundesliga club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had said he was determined to keep Ribery at Munich.
"We didn't buy Franck two years ago to cash in on him but to make our team better," he told Bild newspaper.
Reports from Spain say Real Madrid are prepared to pay 55 million euros (76 million dollars) for Ribery. Manchester United and Chelsea have also made offers, and Barcelona may also be interested, reports have said. (dpa)
