Baby sitter booked for feeding wine to infant
It has been reported that a babysitter was sentenced to eight years in prison for feeding an infant wine, shooting the baby's alcohol level to four times the legal limit for an adult.
Court records indicate that Tammy Denise Truitt, 41, of Carrollton, Ga., pleaded guilty to aggravated battery June 2 and faces four years of probation after the prison term.
She confessed she fed the wine to the 9-month-old boy in a "sippy cup" to help him go to sleep.
It was also reported that Truitt was hired last July to babysit the boy and his four siblings, age 3, 5, 7 and 9, after the children's mother left for Atlanta on a family emergency, Carrollton Police Lt. James Perry testified.
Atlanta is about 50 miles east of Carrollton.
Police records have indicated that when the children's grandmother arrived at the house 5 hours later to pick up the three boys and one girl, she found the baby unresponsive.
Carrollton's Times-Georgian has reported that hospital tests indicated he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.33 percent.
Doctors treated the baby with fluids before transferring him to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Police records also revealed that none of the other children showed signs of alcohol consumption.
The newspaper further said that police determined through interviews that the type of alcohol the baby drank was wine. (With Inputs from Agencies)
