New Delhi: Former Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin is all set to add another feather to its cap.

For the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, the Congress party has decided to field Azharuddin for the Moradabad seat in Uttar Pradesh (UP). Currently, the seat is being occupied by Shafiqur Rahman Barq of the Samajwadi Party.

With this, the Congress party has named its candidates for 53 of the 80 seats in UP.

Party insiders do feel that Azharuddin, considered as one of the most successful Indian skippers, is its best bet for Moradabad because the seat has a large Muslim population. The former right handed middle order batsman was inducted in the party last month.

Earlier it was being predicted that the former cricketer who hails from Hyderabad would be given a ticket either from Tonk in Rajasthan or from Meerut in UP. The 46 year former Indian skipper was allegedly involved in a match-fixing scandal that cut short his cricketing career.

Apart from this, the party has also decided to field nearly 65 candidates in the state. It can be recalled that UP has the highest of 80 Lok Sabha seats.

Azhar is the second cricketer to be fielded by the Congress party after Madan Lal who is the party candidate from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.
