Asteroid 2014-YB35 to Move past Earth on Friday
According to reports, a 1,000 m wide huge asteroid could pass past earth on Friday. Currently, the asteroid has been travelling at a speed more than 23,000 mph in space. Reports by the Mirror stated that if the mammoth asteroid, 2014-YB35, hit earth it could destroy a country and pose threat to the planet.
As per Near Earth Object Programme by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), 2014-YB35 has been found to pass within 2.8 million miles of earth on Friday, which is a very small distance in terms. The asteroid was first detected at the end of 2014 by the Catalina Sky Survey.
If the huge asteroid hits the planet, debris would be thrown into the atmosphere, which could further change earth's climate and make the planet inhabitable for living beings. Smaller impacts of the asteroid could even destroy cities. Earlier, the UK press observed that the United States space agency's Small Object Database Browser was showing an asteroid passing close to planet.
According to the reports, the asteroid will pass within 2.8 million miles of the planet. It means that the object is not going to hit the planet. The asteroid is not just going to pass beyond the moon but is not even the nearest asteroid encounter for 2015.
Earlier, another asteroid named '2004-BL86' has passed through the earth this January. The Object had come within 745,000 miles at its nearest approach. A University of Buckinghamshire astronomy professor, Bill Napier, said that the there's a risk of a comet hitting Earth.
The space agency has been observing the YB35 from a long time. It has been observed 380 times. According to the agency, the asteroid's next visit will be in 2033. That time, the asteroid will be a little closer than Friday's flyby, but still not an impact.
