A.Q. Khan a “closed chapter”, says Pakistan
Islamabad, Feb. 7 : Putting aside the concerns of the international community over the release of disgraced scientist Dr. A. Q. Khan, top Pakistan officials said that the issue of Khan's involvement in illegal trade of nuclear techniques was a "closed chapter" after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed all the charges levied against him.
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Abdul Basit said that it was not right on part of the international community to raise an alarm and question the decision of the Islamabad High Court's order to release Khan from house arrest.
"The so-called AQ Khan affair is a closed chapter. It is counter-productive to speculate on the court''s judgment," The Daily Times quoted Basit, as saying.
Negating the world's concern over the issue, he said that Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state and has taken all necessary steps to promote the goals of non-proliferation.
Basit added that Islamabad has already offered its `fullest co-operation' to the international community over the issue. (ANI)
