Ansari pays homage to Bahadur Shah Zafar

hamid ansariYangon, Feb 7 : Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari today visited the mausoleum of the last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, and paid homage to the saintly figure who became a symbol of resistance against foreign occupation.

The Bahadur Shah Zafar mausoleum is the most popular shrine, which shares historical and cultural legacy of India and Myanmar.

Ansari described the visit to the mazaar, as remembering the contribution of Bahadur Shah Zafar during the freedom struggle, whose name is written in the golden words.

Though, he expressed regret that the last king couldn''t able to die in his own country as desired through his poem that even yards of land was not available for him in the land of the beloved.

Coincidently, the location of the mazaar of last emperor of India is in Myanmar, while the last remains of Myanmar''s last King are in Ratnagiri in India, which is a tragic example of the intertwining of history of both countries.

The custodians of the mazaar expressed gratitude that the Indian Government is providing all kind of help that they seek, and hope to get all kinds of assistance in future also.

Devotees at the mazaar said that Bahadur Shah Zafar attained saintly figure in the world because he was exiled to this country, and buried here and it would better to carry his legacy here in this country amidst the murmur of shifting the mazaar to India. (ANI)
