Animal rights advocates seize 38 abused horses in Canada

Animal rights advocates seize 38 abused horses in CanadaOfficials have revealed that animal rights advocates in Canada are urging the public to speak up when they see animal neglect, following the seizure of 38 abused horses in New Brunswick.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported on Friday that the seizure of the horses by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has shocked animal lovers into raising funds for veterinary bills and to provide other support for the animals, 26 of which have been placed in foster homes.

The report also said that a Fredericton horse owner and realtor raised $2,000 for feed in 2 hours Thursday from local real estate agents.

The CBC further said that the undernourished and dehydrated animals were rescued from an undisclosed property Tuesday and investigators say they will discuss charges once the horses' treatment is completed. At least one of the horses is so emaciated and ill vets aren't sure the animal will survive.

Dr. Alice Crook of the Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre in Prince Edward Island urged the public to report any suspicion of animal neglect.

She further added, "People are often concerned. They don't want to report on neighbors or they may feel sorry about the situation, but the animals are truly suffering in these circumstances." (With Inputs from Agencies)
