Wellington - The Wellington International Airport terminal was evacuated and closed to flights on Monday after an escalator caught fire, news reports said.

Firefighters brought the fire under control and were working to ventilate the area so that passengers could return, Radio New Zealand said.

The cause of the fire was not known. (dpa)
