After serial blasts, pressure mounts on intelligence agencies to beef up network
Veraval/ Rajkot, July 30 : Pressure is mounting on security authorities to beef up intelligence apparatus to counter serial bomb blasts like those recently took place in Bangalore and Ahmedabad claiming more than 50 lives.
Security is being tightened across the nation after security personnel recovered 18 live bombs from Surat and defused them.
Meanwhile, the Saurashtra region of the state has been put on red alert that houses the famous Somnath temple.
Police authorities have deployed additional forces at the temple. Officials said that they have deployed additional companies in addition to the routine police staff.
"We have beefed up the security of the Somnath temple. Though we always guard the temple and there are security forces around, we have intensified the vigil. Security personnel have been deployed at the streets leading to the temple. We are carrying out thorough checking and no vehicles are being allowed inside," said Rajendra Chudasama, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Veraval.
Rajendra further added that the temple streets have been blocked for vehicular traffic and visitors to the temple are being extensively frisked.
Additional forces have also been deployed in Rajkot. Security personnel are keeping a vigil on the security arrangements.
Police are carrying out thorough checks at bus stations, railway stations, malls, market places and other public places.
"Security is high at all railway stations, bus stands, malls and all places of public gathering. Active patrolling is taking place at these places and wherever we have the slightest of any doubt, we are checking the area," said S K Dave, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajkot.
Meanwhile, police in Surat today recovered another unexploded bomb. (ANI)
