6-year-old Dalit girl burnt by upper caste man in Uttar Pradesh village

Mathura UP MapMathura, May 1 : In a gory incident, a six-year-old lower caste girl of Uttar Pradesh's Tarauli Village of Chata Tehsil was burnt on Tuesday allegedly by an upper caste man for entering into an area dominated by upper caste villagers.

The child named Kamlesh suffered 50 per cent burns on her body and is struggling for life in a local hospital here.

The prime suspect Sunny is alleged to have asked the girl to stop before pushing her into a heap of burning waste.

''My daughter and wife were passing by the house of Sunny (the accused). He stopped my daughter. She stopped there out of fear, and he then set her on fire. He is the son of Thakur. It has happened on earlier occasions too when he tried to stop people. No report has been written till now. We brought the child to Mathura. Nobody has been arrested yet," the victim's father Soudan stated.

Police, however, claimed that the investigation into the matter was on and it had already arrested the suspects.

"She (Kamlesh) is being given treatment. A case has been registered. Suspects have been taken into custody for interrogation," said Ram Krishna Chaturvedi, the Senior Superintendent of Police of Mathura.

Being a matter of Dalit society, the senior police officers have arrested some of the suspects under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code and also as per offences in the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Protection Act. (ANI)
