28 More Hospitalized With Diarrhoea-Like Symtoms In Mohali District

28 More Hospitalized With Diarrhoea-Like Symtoms In Mohali District The District Health department declared an outbreak in Mohali village, after 28 more people with diarrhoea-like symptoms were taken to the hospital on Monday

Around 52 residents of slum area were admitted in Phase VI civil hospital with diarrhoea-like symptoms on Sunday.

Health authorities have forwarded water samples for examination to PGI to discover if there are any cholera-causing bacteria in them.

Like preceding years, health agencies are again blaming the water quality as a reason for diarrhea epidemic.

Mohali civil surgeon Avtar Singh directed the district’s residents to use water after boiling it. Some of the new cases were reported from other regions in the district as well.

“Till tests confirm or deny the existence of cholera-causing bacteria, we are going to treat this as a diarrhoea outbreak,” Mr. Singh said.

Mr. Harmanpreet Singh Prince, senior vice-president of Municipal Council, stated that the municipal council should work to guarantee hygiene and proper supply of water to the dwellers of Madanpura, Mataur, Shahimajra and Valmiki Colonies.

On Monday, a medical camp was organized by the health department in Mohali village. Around 1,830 houses covering a population of 10,000 were checked by health experts.

A representative from the public health department told that water supply to Mohali village is provided by tubewells in phases II and VI.

As the cases were reported only from Mohali village, there must be a problem with the pipeline taking the water there, he added. “MC needs to rectify that,” he said.
