200 Films For This Year’s IFFK

200 Films For This Year’s IFFK About 200 films will be screened in the 13th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) to be held at Thiruvananthapuram from December 12 to December 19.

The organizers hope that the festival would give a chance to the public as well as the cine artistes to understand the changes happening around the globe.

World-famous Latin American Film ace Fernando Berry will be the Chief Guest in the festival.

This five-member jury of celebrated African director Idrissa Oedugao, Iranian filmmaker Samira Makhmalbaf, Lucia Murat (Brazil), Jabbar Patel (India) and Sitora Alieva (Russia) will judge all films from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Talented Indian actress Nandita Da will also feature in the festival as a director.

IFFK will organize this week long festival with the association of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KSCA).

Nearly 56 films from 28 countries will be screened in the category of World cinema in this festival. Apart from this, the festival will also showcase seven films that are considered turning points in the history of world cinema.

The main aim of the IFFK is to present the best of World Cinema.  

The competition section is especially devoted to films from Asian, African and Latin American countries. Two Malayalam films: ‘Aakashagopuram’ by K.P. Kumaran and `Adayalangal’ by M.G. Sasi has also been kept in this category.

The categories of this year’s festival include: Contemporary World Cinema, New Malayalam Cinema, Retrospectives of Major filmmakers, Homage and Tributes, Contemporary Indian Cinema, Short films and Documentaries.
