19 years old pleads guilty in FBI sting operation bomb caseAccording to the reports, a young Jordanian man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to trying to blow up a 60-story building in Dallas, not knowing his bomb was fake.

The Dallas Morning News has reported that the judge in Hosam "Sam" Smadi's case refrained from accepting his plea until she hears from his doctors concerning his mental health. No date was set for that hearing.

Since his client was arrested Sept. 24, the youth had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression requiring medication, Peter Fleury, Smadi's attorney, told the judge.

The newspaper further said that Smadi, 19, answered yes when asked by U. S. District Judge Barbara Lynn if he was entering his plea freely and understood what he was doing. He would face up to 30 years in prison if the judge accepts his guilty plea.

The Morning News also said that Smadi, a restaurant employee who had been living in Italy, Texas, caught the attention of authorities in January 2009 when they were monitoring an online Islamic extremist forum. He was given the phony bomb to destroy the Fountain Place skyscraper by undercover agents in an FBI sting operation. (With Inputs from Agencies)
