Zardari says Musharraf’s impeachment may harm economy

Lahore, May 8 : Zardari says Musharraf’s impeachment may harm economyPPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that while the ruling party the PPP does not recognise President Pervez Musharraf as a constitutional president, the country’s economic conditions may deteriorate if he was impeached.

He further said that while the PPP did not support Musharraf, the prime minister and parliament had a “working relationship” with the Presidency for smooth functioning of government affairs.

Zardari’s comments assume significance amid the demands by the PML-N to remove Musharraf on the ground that he was an unconstitutional President.

About the issue of restoration of judges, the PPP Co-Chairman said that a committee drafting a resolution for the restoration of the judges was formed to finalise the modalities for the restoration of the sacked judges. He also clarified that the judges’ restoration had not been part of the PPP’s election slogan.

Speaking on varied issues, the PPP co-chairman said that while he and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif both opposed the 17th Amendment, its repeal would abolish the reserved seats for women and minorities in the National Assembly. (ANI)
