Yemen state security court jails four men over bombing plots

Yemen state security court jails four men over bombing plotsSana'a, Yemen - A state security court in Sana'a sentenced four men to jail terms of between 30 months and three years on Monday for plotting to carry out bombing attacks against foreign tourists and Western interests in Yemen.

The court handed down three-year jail terms on the convicts Tawfiq Saad al-Faqif, Nabil Ahmed al-Suraihi, and Mouadh Ali al-Zaroud. The fourth convict, Ismael Ali Ghurab, received two and a half years in jail.

Presiding judge Radhwan al-Namir said the court convicted the four men after it found the evidence against them "dependable".

He said the convicts planned to target foreign tourists, Western interests and government facilities in the capital Sana'a in 2007, adding that police arrested the men in a safe house in Sana'a. None of the planned attacks took place.

Prosecutors have told the court that the men had prepared weapons and explosive vests for the planned attacks.

The verdict did not mention whether the convict were affiliated to any militant group. (dpa)
