Women lawmaker humiliated inside Pak parliament, starts crying
Islamabad, Nov. 6 : Things can be really tough when you are a woman member of Pakistan’s National Assembly, as you could land in an embarrassing situation when other members of the House refuse to identify you on the floor of the parliament.
An independent female lawmaker, Farkhanda Amjad Warraich was spotted weeping inside the National Assembly after being allegedly humiliated by a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader (PML-N) Khwaja Asif.
Asif was addressing the House when Warraich approached Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to get his signatures on some documents. It was then Asif urged the deputy speaker to stop parliamentarians from meeting the Prime Minister amid the proceedings of the House.
Asif referred to Warraich as a ‘stranger’in the House.
“Mr Speaker, you and I should keep an eye on her to recognise her in future,” Asif said.
His remarks embarrassed Warraich to such an extent that she started weeping, The Daily Times reports.
Asif, however, later apologised to Warraich for his comments. (ANI)
