Winner of Berlin stiletto run sets new record

Berlin  - A Berlin teenager put her high heels to good use on Saturday when she won the city's Stilleto Run to claim first prize - a shopping voucher worth 10,000 euros (14,000 dollars).

Julia Plecher, 18, outsprinted 99 rivals to cover the 100-metre distance in a record time of 14.2 seconds, clipping 0.5 seconds off the previous best mark set in August 2007.

The fashion magazine Glamour sponsored the eye-catching race, which attracted entrants from all over Germany.

Competitors all had to wear heels 7 centimetres or more high, and not exceeding 1.5 centimetres in width.

Alma Forgo, 27, from Munich and Barbara Rink, 25, from the small town of Schwalbach, were slower than the winner, but rewarded for their efforts nonetheless.

The race jury awarded them a special prize for the prettiest high heels and best-looking outfit.  (dpa)
