Vitaminwater lawsuit will not be dismissed
According to the announcements made by plaintiffs, a New York judge refused to dismiss a lawsuit against Coca-Cola over health claims related to its Vitaminwater line of drinks.
Coke's motion to dismiss was rejected in federal court on Friday, The Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington said in a written statement.
The organization's litigation director, Steve Gardner, said, "Vitaminwater is no more than non-carbonated soda, providing unnecessary added sugar and contributing to weight gain, obesity, diabetes, and other diseases. We look forward to representing all Americans whom Coke has deceived."
According to the reports, the center contends Coke has made deceptive and unsubstantiated claims that Vitaminwater promotes health and can reduce the risk of various chronic ailments. It says consumers are led to believe the drink consists of water and vitamins when there is actually sugar added to the mix.
It has further been reported that Coke has denied the allegations and argued that the beverage's ingredients are clearly listed. (With Inputs from Agencies)
