Vinod Rai becomes new Comptroller and Auditor-General of India

New Delhi, Jan 7 Union Finance Ministry Vinod Rai: Former Financial Services Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry, Vinod Rai was today sworn-in as the Comptroller and Auditor-General of India.

He made and subscribed the oath of office before President Pratibha Devisingh Patil.

An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) of Kerala Cadre-72 took over from Vijayendra N Kaul, who took over as the CAG on March 15, 2002.

According to sources, Kaul will now be going to audit advisory committee of the United Nations.

Rai has also worked in the capacity of Managing Director of the Kerala State Co-operative Marketing Federation from 1977 to 1980.

Since 1980 he has held various positions in different ministries.

Prior to taking over as Financial Services Secretary, Rai was additional secretary in the Banking Division of the Finance Ministry.

He holds Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Delhi and Master's in Public Administration from Harvard University. (ANI)
