Verizon’s BlackBerry Storm to be in stores next week

Verizon’s BlackBerry Storm to be in stores next week According to Verizon Wireless, the first ever touch-screen device from BlackBerry maker Research In Motion – the 3G Blackberry Storm, will hit the markets on Friday, November 21.

Research in Motion had announced the BlackBerry Storm in October, saying the phone would be available from Verizon Wireless before the holidays. On Thursday, Verizon announced the pricing and on-sale date.

The device follows a recent string of hot devices from BlackBerry - including the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220, the BlackBerry Bold 9000 and the soon-to-be-released BlackBerry Curve 8900, also known as the BlackBerry Javelin.

The much-awaited Blackberry Storm will sell for $250 with a new two-year contract. With a $50 mail-in rebate, the customer’s outlay will come down to $200. There will be a $35 activation fee, and a $25 fee for each secondary Family SharePlan line.

The Storm will support Verizon’s high-speed EvDO rev. It will also feature Bluetooth and support for both assisted and standard GPS. Like the iPhone, it has an accelerometer so you can use it in either portrait or landscape mode.

The most unusual feature, of the Storm is its Click-Through technology. You can use your fingertip to scroll and make selections on the large, touch-sensitive screen, like on an iPhone.

Cost-wise, the 3G BlackBerry Storm will be in the same price range as other 3G touch-screen titans. Its price will be at par with the 8-GB model of the Apple iPhone 3G, and $20 more than the T-Mobile G1, the first device built on the open-source Google Android operating system.
