uSwitch report is based on outdated data, says BT

uSwitch report is based on outdated data, says BT The British Telecom (BT) has said that the latest uSwitch report outlining the 50 slowest broadband streets in the UK is based on out dated data.

The uSwitch report claimed that Mount Pleasant in the Suffolk town of Halesworth has reported the slowest broadband speed in the UK. The report added that the recorded an average download speed of just 0.128Mbps, which is
37 times than the UK average of 6.8Mbps.

BT disputed he figures saying that Mount Pleasant had speeds of 7.5Mbps, not the 0.128Mbps average. BT said that the street is so close to the exchange and thus it does not have such slow speeds as claimed in the report by the comparison website.

On the other hand, Leamington Spa in Warwickshire recorded the highest average download broadband speed in the UK at 18.87Mbps, just under three times the UK average, according to the report. BT said that seven out of the
50 streets named in the list are now connected to the fibre network.

"It appears that the data in this survey is out of date. Fibre broadband is now available for a number of the streets identified. Street number 38 has access to fibre broadband and so is enjoying some of the fastest speeds in the UK," BT spokesperson said.

uSwitch has responded to BT's comments, saying its data was based on speed tests carried out in the last six months by the consumers.
