Washington - The United States lost 651,000 jobs in February, the worst monthly loss since 1949 and raising the unemployment rate to 8.1 per cent, the US Labour Department said Friday.

Job losses were spread across nearly all major industries amid a deepening recession in the United States. Firms have now cut 2.6 million jobs in just the last four months, the department said. (dpa)
