Unemployment to take four years to touch pre-crisis levels, TUC
The Trade Unions Congress in the UK has warned that it will take four years for the unemployment levels to touch pre-crisis levels.
The group also warned that regional inequalities in the labor market could also lead to unequal economic growth in the country. The unemployment level has been falling across most of the country since January this year. However, the number of people without jobs has risen in England, Yorkshire and Scotland during the period, according to TUC.
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said, "The long-term damage inflicted by the crash and the government's on-going economic mismanagement means that even if current rates of progress continue, it will take years for some areas to get unemployment back down to pre-recession levels."
Latest figures show that the unemployment fell by 117,000 between January and July this year but the unemployment level had increased by 999,000 since the beginning of the recession of the year. The figures are a result of a study that compared the rate at which unemployment rose between January 2008 and July 2012 with the rate of its decrease from January to July of this year.
