UK police can now cut off your car engine from a distance
London, Oct.15 : Policemen in the United Kingdom have been given access to a satellite system that lets them cut off running engines of stolen cars from a distance.
According to The Sun, General Motors’ Onstar global positioning technology tracks the vehicle so cops can locate it.
They then contact operators who can send out a signal to the vehicle – slowing the car by cutting the fuel flow.
The US giant hopes the Stolen Vehicle Slowdown system will reduce chase accidents – and plans to install it in 1.7million new cars in 2009.
It may be fitted in the UK in GM brands Vauxhall, Saab and Daewoo. (ANI)
