Two policemen killed in Pakistan raid, 10 terror suspects detained
Islamabad - Pakistani police on Thursday arrested at least 10 terror suspects in the southern port city of Karachi after a gunfight that left two officers dead and 11 others wounded, media reports said.
The arrests were made in a pre-dawn raid on a house in the city's congested Sohrab Goth neighbourhood, the Geo news channel quoted Karachi police chief Waseem Ahmed as saying.
Two policemen were killed and 11 more were wounded in the gunfight that continued for more than one hour, according to Ahmed. There were no reports about casualties suffered by the alleged militants.
"The suspects taken into custody are linked with an outlawed terrorist organization," Ahmed told Geo without identifying the outfit. He said a huge cache of weapons was also seized in the operation.
Government forces have launched a crackdown on disbanded militant organizations across the country in the aftermath of November 26 Mumbai carnage, which was blamed on a Pakistan-based terrorist group, Lashkar-e-Taiba.
According to Indian authorities, the 10 attackers, who killed more than 170 people in India's financial capital, had come from Karachi on a boat. (dpa)
