TV Industry Again In Doldrums

TV Industry Again In DoldrumsYou might have to wait for some more days to watch your favorite TV soap operas because there is a new twist in the story.

The television workers and technicians who had called off their strike on Wednesday, refused to return to work saying they had been kept in the dark about the agreement with the producers’ body.

Earlier, it was expected that the shooting for television shows will resume on Thursday, and viewers were expecting fresh episodes of their favorite serials from Monday onwards.

Unions say that their members will resume work only on the condition of fulfillment of their demands.

While speaking with the media people, a senior union leader said, “We have been kept out of the agreement and so we will keep ourselves out from work.”

However, on the other hand, the producers’ body had charged the workers of holding the industry to ransom. The body said that if the workers will stay away from their work then the body will hire people from outside.

Commenting on the workers strike, President of AMPTPP (Association of Motion Pictures and Television Programme Producers of India), Ratan Jain said, “We have not received any official letter but we were told that some of the unions have revolted saying that they don’t agree with the terms of the MoU. We need to start shooting now. The producers will be forced to hire people from outside if some people don’t join work.”

Meanwhile, Mukesh Bhatt, who is the chairman of the producers’ body, also criticized the workers for holding the strike.

He said, “Their [the workers’] house is divided. They had signed the new document which had given them considerable benefit and today they are singing a different tune. This is very unfortunate and unprofessional. Out of the 22 workers segments in the FWICE, four had asked for better pay and we had resolved it yesterday. But now out of those four factions, two of them like the hairdressers, dress suppliers and the sound recordists have backtracked.”
