Turkish premier, Jordan's Abdullah discuss Gaza attack

Turkish premier, Jordan's Abdullah discuss Gaza attack Amman - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks at the Red Sea resort of Aqaba Wednesday with Jordan's King Abdullah as part of regional tour aimed at ending the Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

Abdullah urged the world community "to move immediately to stop the Israeli aggression which represents a flagrant violation of humanitarian, legal and ethical standards", the statement said.

He warned against the "dangerous dimensions of the Israeli aggression on the peace process", contending that "Israel will not get security through the killing of innocent people and civilians and exposing the Palestinian people to a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip."

Erdogan held similar consultations earlier in the day in Damascus with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and was due to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at Aqaba.

Israel says it launched the five-day offensive in response to Hamas rocket attacks into Israeli territory. (dpa)
