Thailand reports "suspected" influenza A H1N1 case
Bangkok - Thai health authorities have reported the country's first suspected case of influenza A H1N1, although they were awaiting lab results from the US for verification, media reports said Sunday.
"We want to be certain that this case is really an infection of the new virus strain," Kamnuan Ungchusak, an epidemiologist at the health ministry's disease control department, told reporters.
The suspected case had developed flu-like symptoms since returning from abroad. The patient, who recovered after receiving anti-viral drugs, has been kept under quarantine.
Thailand has imposed a host of preventative measures against the spread of A H1N1, including planting heat-seeking devices at the country's main international airports to detect arrivals suffering from fevers.
Since the swine flu scare began, some 25 people have been placed under quarantine for observation, of whom 15 have been discharged, the Bangkok Post reported. The rest are still under observation and isolation. (dpa)
