London, January 16: Amateur UFO investigators are reportedly set to arrive in a farming area in Texas, following claims by dozens of people that they have seen large, silent objects with bright lights in the sky.

The Mutual UFO Network, one of the oldest and largest UFO investigative organizations in the US, is now planning to visit Stephenville, 60 miles south west of Fort Worth, next weekend.

A pilot, policeman and local business owners are among people who claim to having seen strange objects flying low and fast over Stephenville.

While many people say that they saw fighter jets chasing the craft on January 8, the local airforce base has denied that its planes were in the area last week.

A spokesman said that sunset falling on commercial airlines might have left the impression on people’s mind that it could be a UFO.

However, local people were unconvinced by this suggestion, and insisted that the object was larger, quieter, faster and closer to the ground than an airplane.

"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," the Telegraph quoted Steve Allen, a pilot and freight company owner, as saying.

He said that the flying object he saw was about a mile long and half a mile wide.

"It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts," he said.

A machinist named Ricky Sorrells said that he saw a flat and seamless metallic object hovering about 300 feet over a field, while he was looking through the telescopic sights of his rifle.

Lee Roy Gaitan, an Erath County constable, said: "I didn't see a flying saucer and I don't know what it was, but it wasn't an airplane, and I've never seen anything like it. I think it must be some kind of military craft - at least I hope it was."

About 200 people claim to having seen spaceships each month, according to the Mutual UFO Network.

Most of such claims are reported in California, Colorado and Texas. (ANI)
