TCS scores as the No.1 private sector employer
Tata Consultancy Services has beaten all its competitors and has bagged the slot for the largest private sector employer in the country. Reportedly the company had 1,63,700 employees as on June 30.
Following the number two slot is IBM. The software giant has over one lakh people on its rolls in the country.
Interestingly the IBM headquarters at US denies of acknowledgement of this fact largely because of the fear of backlash at home. Moreover the rising tension in air particularly because of the transfer of jobs to Indian markets is another cause of the denial.
Furthermore, it is estimated that IBM is all set to cross this employment number in India within a few years time. Currently almost one third of the company's employees are Indians only.
The company's current staff strength is more than four times of Reliance Industries which employs about 23,000 people.
After TCS and IBM, Infosys grosses the chart as India's third largest employer.
Interestingly since 2007, IBM has stopped revealing the geographic break-up of its employee numbers. At that time, the company's employee strength was 73,000 in India.
After that the company has been adding almost 20,000 employees per year on an average basis.
