The Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) has invited wrath of various social groups for its behavior in the Sion hospital baby kidnap case. Initially BMC said that it would pay 5 lakh compensation to Chembur residents Mohan and Mohini Nerurkar, whose three-day-old baby was kidnapped from the Sion Hospital on January 1. But on Friday, it told the court that it would pay no compensation to the couple at this stage.

Mihir Desai of India Centre for Human Rights and Law said: "The incident shows that the BMC is completely brazen. There is no ambiguity about the fact that the child went missing and that the incident occurred within the hospital premises.''

The Department of Telecom (DoT) asked state-owned telecom giants BSNL and MTNL to discontinue their third generation (3G) services till the time the security agencies set up apt monitoring system in order to track traffic on their network.

The decision comes in spite of BSNL and MTNL clarifying to the administration that interception of 3G traffic is possible, during a meeting with the DoT on March 4.

The Intelligence Bureau informed the DoT that BSNL has not provided for monitoring video calls.

For the week ended Mar 6, 2009, the 30 share index, Sensex lost 565.79 points (6.36%) to settle at 8,325.82, while the broad based NSE Nifty sank 143.5 points (5.19%) at 2,620.15 during the same period.

During the week, mid-cap stocks declined 171.99 points at 2,586.30. The small-cap shares dropped 194.28 points (6.25%) at 2,911.73.

The easing inflation, which dropped by 33 basis points to 3.03%, and administration’s stimulus of cut in interest rate by 50 basis points failed to boost investor reaction in the markets.

After the success of moon mission Chandrayaan-I, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) sets its eyes on sun.

Mr. Madhavan Nair, ISRO chairman, said that the space organization is keenly pursuing a space mission, Aditya, which will be sent to the sun in 2012 to study the corona or outermost layer of the sun.

Mr. Madhavan also said that Mission Aditya will try to find out how and why flares and winds from the sun upset the communication network, and play havoc with electronics back on earth.
