It was a tough day for World champion Viswanathan Anand in the office as he had to play out a hard-fought draw with Grandmaster Lenier Dominguez of Cuba in the third round of the 22nd Ciudad de Leon chess tournament. The draw was agreed to in 41 moves.

Anand maintained to be in the third position with 1.5 points behind Levon Aronian (Armenia) and Alexander Grischuk of Russia.

Currently, both Aronian and Grischuk are placed at number one position with two points each.

Mahashivratri, the most important religious festival of Kashmiri Pandits, is being celebrated across the Kashmir valley today.

Though a majority of Pandits migrated from the valley due to the eruption of militancy about 18-years-ago, people here continue to cherish the traditional glory associated with the annual festival.

A new study has revealed that breastfeeding for at least two months, can lessen the risk of having relapses in women suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS).

The study presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology said that women with MS have less relapses during pregnancy, while the risk of experiencing the same increases considerably during the first 3 to 4 months postpartum.

The study said that women who breastfed for at least two months after pregnancy may slash their risk of getting multiple sclerosis symptoms back by one-third.

Country's largest power generation and other heavy equipment maker, Bharat Heavy Electricals has paid an interim dividend of Rs 298 crore to the Central Government for its financial performance during 2008-09.

On account of the equity participation of 67.72 per cent in the corporation, a dividend cheque for Rs 298 crore was presented to Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Sontosh Mohan Dev by BHEL Chairman and Managing Director K Ravi Kumar.

With a view to expand its marketing network and ramp up its production capacity, electronic and electrical products maker, Panasonic said that it would invest $300 million in India by the next three years.

The Japanese company would also come up with some factories during this period. At present, the company imports washing machines, air conditioners and plasma TVs from its Thailand and Japan units in India.     

The data from study of 12 European cities from Dublin to Valencia disclosed that temperatures increase during the summer may increase the number of hospitalizations for respiratory problems, especially among elderly people.

The data comes from a European project known as the “Assessment and Prevention of Acute Health Effects of Weather Conditions in Europe” (PHEWE).
