American Centers'' logo design competition winner to get U.S. Design FellowshipNew Delhi, Dec. 17 : The American Centers of India are inviting talented individuals across the country to create a logo that will be displayed across the full range of American Center activities - burnishing their brand in India and helping strengthen India - U. S. ties.

The winning designer, if eligible for a U. S. visa, will receive a 10-day fellowship in the United States to visit some of America''s top creative institutions, a US embassy release said.

Antony says Government to continue efforts to trace PoWs

AK AntonyNew Delhi, Dec 17 : Defence Minister A K Antony today said the government will continue efforts to pursue tracing the 54 missing Prisoners of Wars (PoWs).

Addressing a meeting of the war widows here, Antony said, "The fate of the PoWs and their families continues to haunt him. We tried our best but still we are not able to find the truth. The family members of the PoWs went to Pakistan, but they were not allowed to see all the places. We have not abandoned our efforts and will continue whatever humanly is possible in this regard to locate these people."

Officials order culling in West Bengal after bird-flu outbreak

India MapNew Delhi - Authorities in India's eastern state of West Bengal said Wednesday an extensive culling operation was ordered to contain an outbreak of bird flu, news reports said.

Only 155 birds were killed in the first day of culling Tuesday due to poor weather conditions and the lack of adequate workers, IANS news agency quoted Dilip Chakraborty, a senior official in the state's Animal Resources Development department as saying.

"There are adequate number of workers since Wednesday and they are operating at full strength since morning. We hope to cull a substantial number of poultry by the end of the day," Chakraborty said.

Sheila Dikshit sworn in as Delhi CM

New Delhi, De 17 : Sheila Dikshit was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Delhi for the third consecutive term.

Dikshit, 71, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Delhi Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna at the Raj Niwas in the presence of politicians, including BJP Legislature Party leader V K Malhotra and state party chief Harshavardhan.

Ministers in the previous Cabinet A K Walia, Mangat Ram Singhal, Haroon Yusuf, Rajkumar Chauhan and Arvinder Singh Lovely along with the new face Kiran Walia also took oath.

Dikshit led the party to victory for the third consecutive term. The Congress won 42 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly while the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) had to be content with 23 seats.

Chidambaram terms ‘Salva Judum’ a non-state actor

Union Home Minister P.ChidambaramNew Delhi, Dec. 17 : Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has termed Chattisgarh's anti-naxalite group, 'Salva Judum' as a non-state actor.

Replying to queries during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Chidambaram said the Centre is not in favour of "non-state" actors taking the job of law enforcement into their hands.

"We are not in favour of non-state actors taking law enforcement in their hands," he said.
