New Delhi - India honoured security personnel killed during the Mumbai terrorist attacks as the nation celebrated its 60th Republic Day Monday with a military parade in New Delhi amid heavy security.

The event began on a sombre note with President Pratibha Patil conferring India's highest gallantry awards, the Ashok Chakra medals posthumously to six policemen and commandos for bravery during the November 26 attacks.

New Delhi, January 26 : Citizens across India celebrated the country's 60th Republic Day on Monday, even as the nation's military might was on full display at a magnificent annual parade along New Delhi's majestic Raj Path.

The event, showcasing gallantry, tradition and the joy that every Indian citizen, was performed before President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Chief Guest and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and a host of other dignitaries from all walks of life.

India has blamed the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group for carrying out the attacks that killed 173 people including 26 foreign nationals.

New Delhi, Jan. 26 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming affection that the people across the country have expressed for his early recovery from heart ailment at the All India Medical Institute of Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital.

Dr. Singh has received countless messages from women, men and children from across the country extending their good wishes for his speedy recovery and good health.

New Delhi, Jan 26 : Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh continues to make excellent progress in his recovery following the 11 hour long heart surgery performed on him on Saturday.

According to reports, he sat up this morning and had some semi-solid food. Several of his invasive monitoring lines have been removed and physiotherapy is being given to enable early mobilisation.

Dr Manmohan Singh is regularly conversing with his family and doctors.

New Delhi, Jan. 26: India's second highest civilian award - the Padma Vibhushan - will be conferred this year on ten persons, while the country's third highest civilian award - the Padma Bhushan will be conferred on 30 individuals.

Noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna, Missionaries of Charity head Sister Nirmala and nuclear scientist Anil Kakodar are among the 10 Indians named for the Padma Vibhushan, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué announced on Sunday.
