Seventh Light Cavalry to celebrate 225 years of its raising

Indian ArmyNew Delhi, Feb. 10,: The second oldest and most decorated Armoured Regiment of the Indian Army, the 7th Light Cavalry would celebrate its 225th Raising Day from February 12 to February 14, 2009.

A galaxy of eminent dignitaries, including senior serving and retired officers, old British officers, retired Junior Commissioned Officers, other ranks and widows of martyred soldiers will be present on the occasion.

The regiment was launched in 1784 as the Nawab of Arcot's Cavalry.

The regiment emerged as the most decorated of the Indian Army after the 1971 operations. It has 294 confirmed awards so far.

Arjun Singh appeals to States to raise budgetary support for education

Arjun SinghNew Delhi, Feb. 10, : Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh on Tuesday appealed to all States to raise their budgetary support for education and welcomed members who have been nominated to the reconstituted Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) for the first time.

Addressing the education ministers of all States at the 55th meeting of the CABE, Singh stated that an outlay of Rs. 270 thousand crore has been made available for the Ministry of HRD for the XIth plan as against the Xth plan expenditure of Rs. 58,817 Crore.

Penelope Cruz has never received a V-Day card

The ''Vicky Christina Barcelona' star admits that she has never sent and never received any Valentine''s Day cards. They hold no importance for her, reports China Daily.

"Valentine''s Day cards means nothing to me. I have never sent one - and never had one," she said.

The 34-year-old actress also revealed that she doesn't like to talk about her love life.

SAARC members discuss trade prospects in New Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 10: Commerce Secretaries of SAARC nations met here on Tuesday to find ways to remove trade barriers and boost business within the region.

Commerce Secretaries from eight member countries of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation''s (SAARC) -- India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan Sri Lanka and Afghanistan participated in the meeting.

Pakistan''s Commerce Secretary Suleman Ghani also attended the meeting, the first official visit by a Pakistani official after the Mumbai attacks.

Ghani said, his country had been a vocal supporter of boosting free trade in the region and was committed to helping the lesser developed countries.

Samajwadi Party lashes out at Congress for political witch-hunt

New Delhi, Feb 10 : The Samajwadi Party has said the Congress is using the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to settle scores with it.

"I am very ashamed to have given support to Congress who can go to this extent to fix their adversaries. Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel was attacked when the talks of seat sharing were going. When we are having talks of seat sharing with them, they have asked for CBI inquiry on us. We are not afraid of CBI," Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh told reporters here on Monday.
