Delhi court gives Amar Singh a final call to appear

Amar SinghNew Delhi, Feb 25 : A Delhi court has given final call to Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, to appear before it on Thursday to record his statement on a criminal complaint filed by him two years ago.

"It is stated by the counsel for the complainant that the matter be adjourned for tomorrow. Time and again, opportunity has been given to the complainant, but he has failed to appear in the court. Today, no application was filed, neither any reasonable ground has been mentioned," the court said here on Wednesday.

Ajmal Amir KasabNew Delhi - Indian police were expected to file charges Wednesday against the lone surviving gunman in the Mumbai terrorist attack of November.

The charge sheet would be filed in the court of a metropolitan magistrate in Mumbai, public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam was quoted as saying by the IANS news agency.

Besides Ajmal Amir Kasab, 11 others - including Fahim Ansari and Salauddin Mohammed, the Pakistan-based leaders of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba - have been named in a mammoth charge sheet running more than 5,000 pages, the report said.

Government approves reconstruction of NHAI

New Delhi, Feb 25 : The government on Wednesday approved the reconstruction of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the constitution of a search committee for the appointment of chairman for the highways regulator.

"Re-structuring of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been approved by the government... empowering the NHAI to engage, where required, outside experts," Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways KH Muiyappa said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The search committee would select a chairman for NHAI for at least three years, which is likely to be extended up to five years with relaxation in age up to 62 years.

A court also imposed a fine of Rs two lakh on Sukhram.

However, the court granted bail to Sukhram on furnishing a personal bond and surety of Rs 50,000 each.

On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) pleaded before a court to give the maximum punishment of seven years to Sukhram.
