Chilean President to meet Manmohan Singh todayNew Delhi, Mar 17 : The President of Chile, Dr. Michelle Bachelet, will meet Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here today to further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

A number of agreements are expected to be signed during the meeting.

During her visit, Bachelet is also scheduled to meet President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Dr. Mohammed Hamid Ansari, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the Leader of Opposition L. K. Advani.

A meeting between the Home Ministry and the BCCI officials on Monday ended without resolution with the Ministry making it clear that it was not in a position to spare para-military forces because of the Lok Sabha elections.

"With Karat being at the helm, I see no such hope of joining the Third Front," Singh made the remark when asked if there is a possibility of the SP joining the Third Front if the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) walked out of the alliance.

India welcomes end to political turmoil in Pakistan New Delhi - India on Monday welcomed the end of the political crisis in Pakistan and said it hoped that the government in Islamabad will be stable so it can devote its attention to fighting terrorism.

"What is happening in Pakistan is essentially its internal matter. Normally we do not comment on internal affairs of any country," India's External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told PTI news agency as the crisis in the neighbouring country seemed to subside.

Chilean president begins official India visit New Delhi - Chilean President Michelle Bachelet began a five-day visit to India Monday to strengthen trade and political ties, officials said.

Bachelet was scheduled to be the chief guest at a state banquet to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Chile.
