Hindu seers stage protest in New Delhi

Malegaon AccusedNew Delhi, Nov 26 : Hindu seers led by senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Pravin Togadia staged a silent protest in New Delhi on Wednesday, to show solidarity with Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, one of the accused in the Malegoan blasts case.

Earlier this month, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Maharashtra detained Thakur, Dayanand Pandey and Lietenant Colonel Purohit, all belonging to Hindu community, in connection with the Malegaon blasts case.

Togadia described the Malegaon probe as a conspiracy by the government to protect the extremists.

Recession has no impact on Suzuki says company''s top official

Suzuki buys back 3-per-cent stake from General Motors New Delhi, Nov 26 : Global recession has not affected us said Katsumi Takata, Joint Managing Director of Japanese two-wheeler giant Suzuki during the launch of their super bike Hayabusa in New Delhi on Wednesday.

“May be recession is starting, may be from the last month. May be this trend continues for a while but so far, as far as we are concerned, we are still growing. Every month we are going up,” said Takata.

Indian groups call for halt on secret EU-INDIA FTA talks

India FlagNew Delhi, Nov. 26 : Indian organizations representing NGOs, farmers groups, trade unions, health groups and peoples’ movements today called for an immediate halt to negotiations between India and the European Union on a far reaching Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that will have an adverse impact on livelihoods, food security and access to healthcare.

According to a press release issued by the Centre for Education and Communication, the groups met with Members of the European Parliament in Delhi to place on record their grave concerns over the overarching scope of the FTA negotiations and the extreme and unwarranted secrecy surrounding them.

Deora’s announcement to cut fuel prices creates poll row

India FlagNew Delhi, Nov 26 : Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora’s announcement to cut fuel prices has created poll row between the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging violation of election code.

The BJP leaders Mukhtaar Abbas Naqvi and Ravi Shankar Prasad approached the Election Commission on Wednesday demanding action against the Petroleum Minister.

Deora had announced on Tuesday a probable cut in fuel prices towards the end of December.

Abu Salem produced in Delhi court

Abu SalemNew Delhi, Nov 26 : Accused of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts Abu Salem was produced in a court in New Delhi on Wednesday in connection with an alleged extortion call made by him to a businessman.

The court has allowed him to return to Mumbai for appearing before various courts in connection with other cases.

Salem is required to give a written undertaking that he would be present in New Delhi on December 12 for the next hearing in connection with the extortion case.

Man detained by wife from meeting mistress calls cops 16 times for help

New Delhi, Nov 26 : A man from the Xiaguan district in the Sichuan province called up the police 16 times for assistance after his wife locked him in their house to stop him from meeting his mistress.

The police had received the first call at 7:40 pm on November 13, and they came over to his house to see what the problem was.

The man told them at the time that he needed to meet a friend but was stopped by his wife, the China Daily reports.

When the cops came to know the wife’s side of the story, they decided that it was a domestic dispute and not a kidnapping and that they were powerless to do anything and left.

But the man did not leave things alone and kept on calling the police, and they came after his 16th call.
