NTPC bags Golden Peacock Award

NTPCNew Delhi, Sept 30 : The National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) Limited has won the Golden Peacock Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance for the year 2008.

The award was received by A. K. Rastogi, Company Secretary, NTPC in London from Dr. Ola Ulsten, Former Prime Minister of Sweden and Chairman of the World Council for Corporate Governance.

C. B. Bhave, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) was also present on the occasion.

Indian markets recover after regulator's assurance

New Delhi - India's benchmark Sensex stock index recovered from early losses Tuesday after market regulator the Securities and Exchange Board of India assured that the US financial crisis will not affect domestic bourses.

The 30-share-sensitive index plunged by 442.20 points soon after opening to a near two-year low of 12,153.33 - a loss of 3.5 per cent -amid heavy selling in stocks of banking, metal, realty and IT sectors.

The Sensex later pared its losses and was trading at 12,612.28, up 0.13 per cent, at 12:15 pm (0645 GMT).

The broader S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange also recovered and was trading at 3,846.10, down 0.10 per cent, around the same time.

Russia plans to sell SuperJet-100 airliners to India

New Delhi, Sep 30 : Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has said that it had started talks with Indian firms on the delivery of SuperJet-100 passenger airliners and other civil aircraft to the country.

The SuperJet-100 project is a family of medium-haul passenger aircraft developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau in cooperation with major US and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace and Honeywell.

“We have started preliminary talks with a number of Indian companies on the delivery of SuperJet-100 airliners,’ Alexei Fyodorov, UAC’s general director, said here without specifying the potential customers.

Russia to start delivering MiG fighters to India in 2009

MiG fightersNew Delhi, Sep 30 : Russia will start deliveries of MiG-29K Fulcrum-D carrier fighters to India in the spring of 2009.

Russia and India signed a contract on January 20, 2004, stipulating the delivery of 12 single-seater MiG-29K and four two-seater MiG-29KUB by 2009, to be deployed on the Admiral Gorshkov, currently being retrofitted in Russia for the Indian Navy.

“The first four MiG-29K aircraft will be delivered to India in the spring of 2009,” said Mikhail Globenko, marketing director of MiG.

No settlement issues with stock exchanges: SEBI chief

Securities and Exchange Board of IndiaNew Delhi, Sept 30 : SEBI Chairman C. B. Bhave today said that SEBI is closely monitoring markets and has verified with stock exchanges that there are no settlement issues.

"Yesterday''s settlement went through smoothly. It is expected that the settlement tomorrow also will be smooth. The clearing and settlement mechanism of the stock exchanges is a time tested mechanism, which has been tested in times of great volatility," Bhave said.
