One dead in Hindu-Christian clashes in India

Orissa, IndiaNew Delhi  - A woman was killed and more than a dozen people injured in renewed violence Tuesday in India's eastern state of Orissa, where clashes between Hindus and Christians have claimed 30 lives in the past month, news reports said.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during a visit to France, condemned the violence and instructed the Orissa government to maintain law and order.

Local news outlets reported that mobs set fire to more than 100 Christian homes and a church in three different places in the central district of Kandhamal.

President, V-P and PM condole loss of lives in Jodhpur temple stampede

Rajasthan, JodhpurNew Delhi, Sep 30 : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Vice President M. Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Sing have condoled the loss of lives in the stampede that took place at the Chamunda Devi Temple in Jodhpur today.

The President said that she is praying for the early recovery of those who were injured in the tragedy.

Dr. Singh, who is in pains, has expressed shock and grief over the death of devotees in the stampede.

He conveyed his sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to all the injured.

Navy chief announces joint doctrine for Special Forces operations

Authored by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staffs, Doctrine Branch, the document covers the organisational set up and special characteristics of the Special Forces, and highlights their suitability for various roles, ranging from strategic and operational level tasks to unconventional warfare and counter insurgency or counter terrorism tasks.

Underworld don Babloo Shrivastava awarded life imprisonment

Babloo ShrivastavaNew Delhi, Sept 30 : Underworld don Babloo Shrivastava was on Tuesday held guilty and awarded life imprisonment under Section 302 (murder) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC by a Kanpur District Judge in the city''s TADA court.

Shrivastava is a gangster who allegedly hatched a plot to kill LD Arora way back in 1993. Arora was an assistant custom collector, who was shot dead near his residence in Allahabad on March 24, 1993.

Shrivastava’s two assistants, Manjit Singh alias Mange Sardar and Kamal Kishor Saini, were also found guilty in conspiring of Arora''s murder and have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

A Raja calls for strengthening broadband services

BSNL Tender Attracting Big Guns New Delhi, Sept 30 : Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A. Raja today asked public sector BSNL to give top most priority to the growth of cellular and broadband services.

Speaking at the 15th Heads of Circles Conference of BSNL here, Raja expressed worries over the dwindling market share of BSNL in the mobile telecom segment.

He called upon BSNL officials to workout a strategy to restore BSNL’s market position.
