City theatres are screening the movie to full houses
Even before it won over the Oscar jury, Slumdog Millionaire had won the approval of the Amdavadi movie-goer. On its release for public screening on January 16, the critics had panned the film, calling it 'poverty porn'. Yet, unlike most movies nowadays that find it difficult to survive in the halls even for a week, Slumdog is still attracting movie-goers to the theatres in the city, six weeks after its release.
The rags-to-riches drama by British director Danny Boyle, was screened to full houses in the city in the first week after its release. Owners of the city's movie halls where the film is still being shown say that there is no sign that 'Slumdog' is losing audiences.
Washington, February 24 (ANI): With a Golden Globe and BAFTA-winning performance in The Wrester set to boost his film career, actor Mickey Rourke can finally pay back the doctor who treated him for free for over a decade.
The therapist, whose name has not been disclosed, was a psychiatrist.
Rourke credits him, and his loyal dogs, for saving his life during a time when he had started to feel hopeless.

While foreign and subtitled films often struggle to make any inroads in American film market, the critically acclaimed film about an 18-year-old slum boy from rags to riches is expected to break records at the box office after its first nationwide release.
The success of Slumdog Millionaire at the Oscars had Dev Patel's relatives in Gujarat cheering all the way. Patel plays the male lead in the movie that ran off with eight Oscars in Los Angeles on Sunday. “The entire family is very proud of Dev's performance in the film. We were praying for Slumdog's success,” said Dipen Bhuva, Patel's uncle who lives in Jamnagar. “The ceremony in Los Angeles had us thanking God every time the film received an Oscar.” He said they had watched the entire ceremony on TV.
Allah Rakha Rahman, 43, the Mozart of Madras, thanked god in Tamil soon after receiving his Oscars. “Ellapugazhum Iraivanukee” he said, meaning “May all praise be to the almighty”. It's a line the music maestro has been saying at numerous awards.
