London, March 23 : British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has paid tribute to Jade Goody, saying her death had left him "saddened".

The leader of the Labour Party paid his respects to the 27-year-old, who slipped away peacefully on March 22 in her sleep, while mum Jackiey Budden and hubby Jack Tweed held on to her hands.

The Brit reality star, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer last August, had planned her last weeks carefully before losing her battle with the disease on Mother's Day.

London, Mar 23 : British scientists are all set to become the first in the world to use embryonic stem cells for producing unlimited amounts of synthetic human blood, paving the way for infection-free emergency transfusions.

This week, scientists will announce a three-year research project, in which transfusion of "synthetic" blood made from the stem cells of spare IVF embryos will be done for the first time in human volunteers.

London  - British security experts were Sunday investigating what was termed a "suspicious device" aboard an Emirates Airline plane that had landed at London's Gatwick airport, the BBC reported.

The broadcaster said the flight had arrived from Dubai. All passengers and crew were evacuated and the plane was in a holding area of the airport, which had reopened after being temporarily closed.

London, Mar. 22 : The British Foreign Office has been severely criticized by management consultants as a "mediocre" institution which turns some of the country''s brightest civil servants into "clones".

The 42-page report, written by the management consultant firm `Courad', concluded that years of sub-standard senior management had reduced staff at one of the great Whitehall departments to misery.

"It (the FCO) recruits bright people brimming with independent thought but then proceeds, both intentionally and unintentionally, to apparently ''clone'' them," The Scotsman quoted the review report, as saying.

London, Mar. 22 : A former Conservative leader has claimed that Margaret Thatcher would not have survived as Prime Minister, had former Labour chancellor Denis Healey not paved way for 1976 bailout.

Iain Duncan-Smith has said that Healey, who negotiated with the International Monetary Fund in 1976, deserves credit for the economic achievements of the Thatcher government.
