Pak has never had President from Balochistan, or a woman PresidentLahore, Sept 6: Even as Pakistan witnesses presidential poll today, there are two startling facts that come to one’s minds, i. e. the country has never had a woman President; and that none of the 10 Presidents was from Balochistan, one of the four provinces in Pakistan.

Of the total 10 Presidents and four governor generals Pakistan has had so far, six were from Punjab, six from Sindh and two from the NWFP, but none from Balochistan, reported the Daily Times.

Four children, woman, man killed in Pak in ‘US drone attack’

MiranshahMiranshah (Pakistan), Sept 6: Four children, a woman and a man were killed in Pakistan’s Miranshah tribal area when a suspected US drone hit two houses here on Friday morning.

Miranshah is located on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan.

“Three missiles were fired from a drone that hit two houses. Four children, a woman and a man have been killed in the attack,” the Daily Times quoted Pakistan intelligence officials as saying on condition of anonymity.

Pak get 8 surveillance aircraft from China, Sweden

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood AhmedLahore, Sept 6 : Pakistan will soon get four AWACS aircraft from China and four SAAB-2000 aircraft from Sweden, the country’s Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed said here last evening.

Both the types of aircraft will be state-of-the-art surveillance aircraft.

Besides, talks were also underway for the purchase of 30 to 40 FC-20 aircraft from China, the Daily Times quoted him as saying.

Following “Taliban threats” Pak stops supplies to US, NATO forces

Peshawar, Sept 6 : Citing “security reasons” following Taliban threats, Pakistan has reportedly stopped supplies to the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan through its western Torkham border, with effect from Friday.

A senior Pakistan official said that the move to stop supplies was taken after am increase in Taliban threats to trucks carrying the supplies. He dismissed the impression that the decision was a reaction to continued US attacks in Waziristan.
