Gang-rape victim Mukhtaran Mai weds police constable in her native villageLahore, Mar. 16 : Mukhtaran Mai, the woman who was gang-raped by tribals in 2002 for seeking to safe her brother from radical Islamic justice, has married a police constable from her native village in Muzaffargarh, a private TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to The News, Mai married to Nasir Abbas Gabol. It was Gabol's second marriage and Mai's family members attended the event.

Mai attracted the attention of local and international media after she was gang-raped on the orders of a panchayat.

Nawaz Sharif calls off `Long March''Islamabad, Mar. 16 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Monday called off the `Long March'' of opposition politicians and lawyers after incumbent Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced that deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would be reinstated on March 21 after present Chief Justice Dogar retires.

In an address to the nation, Gilani declared that President Zardari had agreed to most of Nawaz Sharif''s demands.

Gilani also ordered all political party activists and lawyers arrested over the past week to be released.

Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad/Lahore, Mar. 15 : A retired Lieutenant General of the Pakistan Army and well-known security and political analyst, has claimed that President Asif Ali Zardari can save his political career only if he hands over constitutional powers to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Lt. Gen. (retired) Talat Masood said Zardari has proved to be a “disappointment” as President so far.

“People are very concerned about how their political leaders, especially Zardari, are handling affairs of state,” he said.
