Lahore, Aug 14: The Pakistan’s unit of the Taliban – the TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban – has reportedly warned people in the Swat tribal area to stay away from Independence Day celebrations today, a local TV report said.

Pakistan is celebrating its 61st Independence Day today, and the Taliban’s threat came last evening.

According to the report, Taliban spokesman Haji Muslim Khan said those who had destroyed Taliban’s houses would see their own houses destroyed.

Islamabad, Aug 14: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is learnt to have refused to take a “safe passage” to mean an immediate exile out of the country following his resignation.

He is said to be insisting on guarantees from the federal government that he be allowed to stay in his newly-built house on the outer-skirts of Islamabad and given foolproof security.

Dubai, Aug. 13 : Pakistani and Indian communities in the UAE are gearing up to celebrate their 62nd independence days of their countries this week.

According to Gulf News, The Pakistani community will mark its Independence Day on August 14.

The main gathering will be held at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi and its Consulate General in Dubai. Flag hoisting ceremonies will be held at the missions at 8a. m. The event is open to community members.

The highlight of this year''s Independence Day celebrations is a musical concert -- Jashn-e-Azadi Show -- which will be held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium on Thursday.

Islamabad, Aug 13 : The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has declared an “open war” against the Pakistan Army in response to its offensives in the tribal areas.

The TTP said that it staged a bombing that destroyed a Pakistan air force truck and killed up to 14 people, including a child.

“It is an open war between us and them,” said Pakistani Taliban spokesman Maulvi Omar.

“If these kinds of operations continue against us in Swat and in the tribal areas, we will continue this,” he added.
