Lifting of emergency without reversing Nov 3 actions futile, says MMA

Lahore, Dec 8: Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) president Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that the lifting the state of emergency from Pakistan without reversing the November 3 actions would be futile.

Musharraf will not consider judges' reinstatement

President Pervez MusharrafIslamabad, Dec 8: President Pervez Musharraf has said that he is willing to bring in a new ‘interim set-up’ in response to the opposition parties’ Charter of Demands (CoD), but added that the deposed judges will not be reinstated.

According to sources, Musharraf’s aides have been keenly monitoring the spadework of the committee formed by two opposition alliances, the APDM and the ARD in chalking out the CoD.

So far, the CoD has not been made public, but it reportedly contains 15 demands.

Pak Attorney General urges EC to reconsider Sharifs’ nominations

Lahore, Dec 8: Pakistan’s Attorney General Malik Muhammad QayyumPakistan’s Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum has urged the Election Commission to reconsider the nomination papers former premier Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif.

"I personally urge the EC to consider the Sharifs’ application and decide the case on merit, " he said.

Some government legal experts, asking not to be named, seconded Qayyum’s view.
