Indian doctors not to attend Saarcaa congress in Karachi

Karachi, Jan. 23 : Indian doctors would not be visiting Pakistan to attend the 8th congress of the South Asian Association of Regional Co-operation Association of Anesthesiologists (Saarcaa) to be held in Karachi, The News reported.

Members of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) said that the Indian Government is not ready to allow the doctors to visit Pakistan amidst the current tension between both the countries.

The members expressed disappointment over India's decision of not letting the anesthesiologists to participate in the conference. They said that the participation of Indian doctors would have helped Pakistani anesthesiologists to gain knowledge about the latest developments in the field of anesthesia.

Afghanistan and Pakistan top this agenda, followed by nuclear weapons, Iran, energy security, Israel, bipartisanship and openness, in that order.

"Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden will refocus American resources on the greatest threat to our security - the resurgence of Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan,'' the statement said.

De Hoop Scheffer is also expected to meet Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar, the Dawn quoted official sources as saying here.

Pak Taliban denies death of commander Omar Khalid

PakistanPeshawar, Jan. 22: Tehrik-I Taliban Pakistan has denied that its commander Abdul Ali, alias Omar Khalid has been killed in a military strike in Mohmand Agency.

Reports said commander Abdul Ali, alias Omar Khalid, was killed in last night's military offensive in Mohmand Agency, while his second-in-command Shakil had been injured.

The Daily Times reported that Khalid's house was destroyed in the operation while he was inside.

"Omar Khalid is alive and we shall present him before the media in a day or two," a Taliban commander said.
