US clearing misunderstanding between India and Pakistan: Richard Boucher

Richard-BoucherMumbai, Jan. 9 : The US assistant secretary of state for south and central Asian affairs, Richard Boucher, on Friday said the United States of America is attempting to clear misunderstanding between India and Pakistan.

Addressing a news conference at the at the American Centre in Mumbai, Richard Boucher said: "The United States is trying to remove the misunderstanding between Pakistan and India."

According to Richard Boucher, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which is helping Indian intelligence agencies and police in probing the Mumbai terror attack, is investigating the matter.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza GilaniIslamabad, Jan. 9 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Friday that the situation was `fragile' on the border with India, and regretted the suspension of peace talks following the militant attacks in Mumbai in November.

Gilani said that Pakistan's intelligence agency, Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) has given India information about the Mumbai terror attacks, while denying media speculation of a rift between him and the president.

US vice president-elect arrives in Pakistan for talks

Joe BidenIslamabad  - US vice president-elect Joe Biden arrived in Pakistan Friday as part of a tour of the restive South Asian region less than a fortnight before his inauguration, officials said.

Biden, who is accompanied by a congressional delegation, will be holding discussions with Pakistan's top political and military leadership on "bilateral relations and the regional situation," an official of the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.

The US senator was scheduled to meet Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Washington, Jan. 9 : The US National Security Advisor (NSA) Stephen Hadley has said that tackling the terror issue in Pakistan is very important, as it would help the relationship between India and Pakistan to continue on a positive direction.

"Stability in Pakistan is also going to be important and success in the war on terror in Pakistan is also going to be important if we're going to take care of the problem in Afghanistan and if we are going to get Pakistan and Indian relations to continue on a positive footing," the Dawn quoted Hadley, as saying.
