Pak not a terrorist-assisting state: U.S.Washington, Dec. 13 : The United States said on Friday that in spite of the terror attacks in Mumbai, nothing pointed to Pakistan for it to be declared "a terrorist-assisting country".

Responding to a question, US State Department Sean McCormack told a press conference in Washington that though the Jamaat-ud-Dawa was allegedly involved in the Mumbai carnage, nothing discussed so far gave the suggestion that Pakistan needed to be considered a terrorist-assisting country.

China convinced Pak to crackdown on Jamaat-ud-Dawa: Editorial

Lahore, Dec. 13 : The Chinese Government seems to have played a behind the scenes significant role in convincing the Pakistani establishment to launch a "convincing" crackdown on suspect militant organizations operating from Pakistan, an editorial has claimed.

According to the editorial, which appears in the Daily Times, the Chinese had conveyed to Islamabad long before that it needed to be seen as acting against militants operating from its soil, and ban organizations supporting them.

Police officials told the Daily Times that there were no casualties or damage in the attack, but the NNI news agency said on Friday that a ''dozen or more'' containers were destroyed after 10 rockets were fired at the terminal on Ring Road.

NNI said police had arrested five suspects and more arrests were likely.

The Daily Times quoted Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon as telling a private television channel that if it was determined that Kasab was a Pakistani national, then the first step would be to give consular access to ''this person who claims to be a Pakistani''.

US does not fear Pak-India war: RiceWashington, Dec. 13 : US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said that her country does not believe that Pakistan and India will go to war in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, and is not fearful about that prospect should it take place.

Speaking in an interview with CNBC TV, Rice said Washington is playing its role in

easing tensions between the South Asian neighbours.

She said the US has asked Islamabad to "act forcefully in the dangerous situation."

Pak should go that extra mile against terror: SharifLahore, Dec. 13 : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai and the pointing of fingers by the international community at Pakistan, the country should go that extra mile to combat terrorism.

In an interview to the New Delhi-based Tehelka magazine, Sharif said: "Nobody should be prepared to spare any organisation" that is "playing havoc both here and in India."
