Sharif agrees to wait for judges reinstatement till Wednesday

Nawaz SharifIslamabad, Aug. 22 : Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif today said that his party would wait till Wednesday for the sacked judges to be restored.

Denying the the PML-N-PPP coalition was breaking up, he said there was a written deal with Asif Zardari that judges would be restored within 24 hours after Musharraf’s resignation, but this had failed to take place.

In a meeting with Asfandyar Wali and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he said that it has been decided that a resolution would be drafted for restoration of judges and to declare November 3 measures void.

Musharraf’s ouster won’t change Pak’s foreign policy

pervez-musharrafIslamabad, Aug 22 : The Pakistan Foreign Office has said that the country’s present day establishment was committed to the war against terrorism and ensuring peace with India, and that its foreign policy won’t change with Pervez Musharraf’s ouster as the country’s president.

“Pakistan is fully committed in the war against terrorism…. and committed in the peace process to resolve all outstanding issues with India,” Foreign Office Spokesman Muhammad Sadiq said while responding to two different questions during a weekly briefing.

S Arabia to give 500 mln dlr grant to Pak to offset oil prices shocks

Islamabad, Aug 22: In order to offset oil prices shocks, the Saudi Government has reportedly decided to give Pakistan a 500 million-dollar grant instead of an oil import facility on one-year deferred payment, sources in Pakistan Petroleum Ministry said.

They said that the grant would help improve Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves position and reduce its fiscal deficit. The hike in POL prices in recent months has strained country’s resources severely, the Daily Times quoted them as saying.

Pakistan coalition extends deadline for reinstating judges Islamabad  - Former prime minister and the chief of the second-largest party in Pakistan's ruling coalition Nawaz Sharif on Friday pushed forward a deadline for the reinstatement of judges sacked by former president Pervez Musharraf to Wednesday.

The announcement, which came after three of days of reconciliatory efforts by the alliance's junior partners, temporarily saved the coalition led by the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), which was previously headed by assassinated ex-premier Benazir Bhutto.
